About the Director

Valencia C. Giles

Director & Owner

At the age of 7, my dad gave me my first piano. I was so excited and enjoyed piano lessons like a little girl with a brand new doll. Little did I know the impact this gift would have on my life. My elementary years were filled with music. By middle school, my second choice of instrument was the flute. Looking back, I realized that each band director in middle school, high school, and college appointed me as the directors assistant. This path led me to the position I have today. As the Director of LSSM, I find that my passion for teaching, assisting, and helping students has only grown. I love what I do and I have a vision for every student who walks in the door. I am committed to making sure their musical beginning is filled with fun, quality instruction, and care. I am committed to hiring teachers that are committed to the same goals of excellence. Graduating with honors from Alabama A&M University with a double major in flute and piano was intense and rewarding. I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). I am the author of “Beaker’s House of Music,” a note theory curriculum; a recording artist for kids, and a composer. Also, I am a wife & mother of 3 wonderful children.

Ozzie Giles

Special Population Director & Co-Owner

For more than 32 years, I've served as a special population instructor, focusing on intellectual disabilities of all ages and abilities across the spectrum. My expertise in Special Education, backed by a bachelor's degree with honors, has been complemented by a master's in counseling. This combined background has allowed me to support LSSM in warmly welcoming students of diverse abilities into our community. At LSSM, we deeply value the role of music in the lives of children with special needs. It's more than just learning melodies; it encourages self-expression, builds confidence, and fosters friendships. By embracing students of all abilities, we create an environment where every child can explore their talents and grow.
